About Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports

TWO of the Sunshine Coast’s leading sports identities have joined together to establish the new Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Complex, which officially open on November 15, 2010.
Childhood best mates, Todd Forrest and Shaun Blackman, have both played professional football and beach volleyball for a combined 30 years and are now bringing their wealth of experience to their new centre located at 32 Kayleigh Drive, Maroochydore.
Shaun plays centre forward for the Sunshine Coast Football Club and has played professional football for clubs in Pine Rivers, North Star, Peninsula Power and the Queensland Men’s Open. Shaun also played professional beach volleyball for seven years, where he played in two world tours, national and state tours and competed in the Asian beach volleyball tours for three-and-a-half-years.
Todd played beach volleyball for Australia in the national tour, Asian Championships in 1997 and two tours in California and South Africa. Due to a knee injury, Todd moved into organising events and worked with the world government body for beach volleyball to coordinate events around Europe and for the tournaments at the Sydney Olympics.
Todd also owned the Kawana Indoor Sports Complex from 1995 to 2004, before moving to Brisbane to establish the successful West End Sports Complex.
Todd said the new complex will offer indoor football, beach volleyball and indoor netball and also have a social component with an on-site bar and kiosk. The complex will also cater for children sports, birthday parties and corporate functions.
“We’re really excited about the complex,” he said. “We’ve been working on this project for nearly three years now. We were waiting to find the right site.
“Once we found the right site (where Suncoast Boating World was located) it all just fell into place.”
Shaun will be providing coaching in beach volleyball and football to the mixed, female and male teams. A netball instructor will also be on hand to provide experience and support to the teams.
“I’m really excited about the launch of the new sports complex,” he said. “We believe with our background we’ll be able to provide more than just a run of the mill complex.
“We’ll bring our years of experience and knowledge to assist our teams. We also aim to provide and create a social atmosphere where Coast residents can come play sport and hang out with like-minded people. It’s going to be a great community facility.”
Shaun and Todd are taking enrolments now for teams to prepare for the launch of their first season on November 15. To enrol, enquire or take advantage of opening specials call 0403 083 759 or email info@sunshinecoastindoorsports.com.au. Or visit www.sunshinecoastindoorsports.com.au.
